Clinkies: Commissioned Work

05/30/08

Clinkies are ceramic/china art pieces.  Instead of paint, the artwork is rendered in kiln-fired under-glazes and glazes that will never fade or scratch off.  Some pieces make repeated trips into the kiln to assure proper interaction/blending of the colors; but whether fired one time or five, the final beauty of each piece is permanent and guaranteed to be one of a kind.

(Though the artist feels ceramic/china pieces cry out for the fire, commissioned items may be cold-painted if you desire.)

These pieces are all from a growing list of commissioned items.  If any of the models you see on the Clinkies pages strike your fancy but are already sold, or if you have a special animal you would like immortalized as a ceramic figure,  please contact the artist.  Commissioned pieces will vary with complexity, but a general guideline is:

Paint Stable Mate Size Classic Size Traditional Size
Glazed or painted $45 $75 $125

TAF FLAMENCO

As stated on the website, The Kid will custom glaze commissioned pieces, even if they are very similar to earlier creations.  But true to her policy, no horse is ever to be copied exactly, and TAF FLAMENCO is no exception!  Created with a combination of underglazes (some custom mixed) and art glazes as was TWO TO TANGO, her inspiration, FLAMENCO sports pretty brown eyes, shaded tail and ears, and striped hooves. Her crisp white blanket has nicely dispersed spots, and roaning on both shoulders marks the line of demarcation between solid chestnut and blanket. “FLAMENCO” bears two socks with ermine spots, a white blaze, and is finished in tough, shining gloss glaze so her color will never fade or alter over time. Approximately 3 x 6 inches in size, she is signed and dated by the artist, is finished on the underside, and comes complete with a laminated certificate of authenticity.  She is created using Duncan’s pretty laying foal mold.

Commissioned
TAF MISS DEMEANOR

Here is Duncan’s beautiful free-standing Arabian mare transformed into another black and white tovero part-bred, whose inspiration came from The Kid’s earlier creation, TAF ONLY YOU.  Every care was taken so this little lovely would have the coveted 50-50 black to white ratio, along with unique and eye-pleasing markings in general.  Primarily snowy white, she sports pretty soft brown eyes, very detailed hooves and underhooves, pinking on her muzzle, and a nice big blaze.  Kiln fired with custom mixed underglazes (she passed through 1800+ temperatures several times to assure that her markings would remain crisp and clean!) and topped with shining, tough clear glaze, this lovely lady’s coat will never scratch or fade over time.  As with her predecessor, MISS DEMEANOR is VERY SOLIDLY planted on all fours… well ok, all threes!  She is not in the slightest bit tipsy!  (Unless you feed her over-ripe apples…)  Classically sized at approximately 5.5 x 6 inches, she is signed and dated by the artist and comes with a laminated certificate of authenticity.

Commissioned
TAF BABYDOLL

Sweetly eye-catching with just a touch of sassiness, here is yet another piece The Kid was commissioned to make: TAF BABYDOLL.  Inspired by the earlier creation, TAF RECENTLY SPOTTED, BABY was brought to life on Duncan’s laying foal model model, and sports all the bells n’ whistles that a leopard appaloosa should have.   She has absolutely GORGEOUS brown eyes, shaded and striped hooves, and shaded ears and tail.  Her muzzle is pinked, as is the area around her eyes, and her pasterns sport flashmarks.   Finally, her gleaming white coat is covered in tons and tons of spots, some of them being ghost spots, and most being haloed with just a wisp of color.  Created to be a showpiece, she is finished in tough, shining clear glaze, and is felt by The Kid to be definitely LSQ.  Approximately 3 x 6 inches in size, she is signed and dated by the artist, is finished on the underside, and comes complete with a laminated certificate of authenticity.

Commissioned
TAF DREAMWEAVER

Created with a combination of underglazes (some custom mixed) and art glazes as was TWO TO TANGO, her inspiration, and her “sister,” FLAMENCO, TAF DREAMWEAVER sports extremely lifelike brown eyes, shaded tail and ears, and striped hooves. Again, although similar in appearance to her predecessors, closer inspection will reveal her individuality.  Her crisp white blanket has nicely dispersed spots, and roaning on both shoulders marks the line of demarcation between solid chestnut and blanket. “DREAMWEAVER” bears one hind sock and a fore stocking with ermine spots, and a pretty white blaze.  Created with custom mixed underglazes and quality art glazes, she is finished in tough, shining gloss glaze so her color will never fade or alter over time. Approximately 3 x 6 inches in size, she is signed and dated by the artist, is finished on the underside, and comes complete with a laminated certificate of authenticity. She is created using Duncan’s pretty laying foal mold.

A commissioned piece

Commissioned
TAF CRUMPETTE

Here is another commissioned piece, inspired by TAF PIECE OF CAKE.  With enough variation to make her just as uniquely one-of-a-kind as her predecessor, here is Duncan’s laying foal transformed into a brilliant black and white tovero foal with one blue eye! Her eyes, hooves, inner ears and muzzle were underglazed, some of the colors being custom mixed; then she was finished (including her underside) in shining, tough glaze to protect her finish. At approximately 3 x 6 inches in size, she is signed by the artist and comes complete with a laminated certificate of authenticity.

Commissioned
TAF ARIADNE

Inspired again by TAF PIECE OF CAKE, here is yet another commissioned piece, TAF ARIADNE, where Duncan’s laying foal comes to life as a pretty little chestnut tobiano filly.  With enough variation in her coat pattern to make her just as uniquely one-of-a-kind as her predecessor, she still bears the coveted 50-50 color-to-white ratio.

TAF STRATUS

Here is Atlantic Mold's running horse, boldly altered to a black near leopard appaloosa very close in appearance (but not identical) to his predecessor TAF NIMBUS! As with the horse that inspired his commission, no detail has been spared in his creation.  STRATUS bears a pinked muzzle, shaded ears, haloed spots galore, delicately shaded and striped hooves, flash marks, tri-colored eyes and a beautifully shaded mane and tail. Shading is repeated in the rocks over which he gallops as well as in the bottoms of his hooves, which also bear realistic frogs. Nicely sized at 6-1/2" x 7", STRATUS is finished in glossy glazes, assuring permanence to his beautiful coat.  He is signed and dated by the artist.

Commissioned
TAF MACDUFF
(ver. 1, 2 & 3)

In honor of a much beloved dog...

X-Mold's beautiful setter is transformed into a GORGEOUS Gordon setter... well, actually THREE of 'em. Here the artist used a combination of glazes and underglazes to create fine detailing, and to lend depth to the richness of these dogs' coats. Tri-colored eyes, feathering, toes outlined, and finished with a glossy glaze, "MacDuff" and his clones prove stubborn to photograph. THEY ARE SO, SO SHINY! A delicate 3.5 x 5 inches in size, these setters are the artist's first COMMISSIONED WORK.
